My Comments

The comments I make about my paintings are never meant as explanations about what the paintings mean, and they have never been the inspiration for any of my paintings. Just as dreams can inspire interpretations, all my comments were inspired by the paintings, after they were finished.
Some comments are like stories that are based on the images in a painting. Other comments transcend what’s in a painting, going directly to ideas that painting represents. Comments can also be like Haiku or prose. But in spite of any differences, they all serve a common purpose.
When people read comments about a painting they are viewing, instead of interfering with what they already see, those comments add a new dimension of unexpected ways to also view that painting. This experience of viewing a work of art in at least two different ways at once is meant to encourage viewers to look even further for something deeper.
